There’s no doubt that technology has greatly enhanced our lives.

But, by placing it the hands of our children, we have unintentionally exposed them to dangers that we would never have expected. They live in a world full of cyberbullying, sexting, doxing, identity theft, hardcore pornography, sextortion and radicalisation. 3 children in Australia are taking their lives every week in response to cyberbullying.

Cybernetic Shield was formed in response to these horrific statistics. Cyber safety is a Wicked problem – one that has no simple solution, but requires an integrated approach from a number of disciplines in an effort to arrest it.

Responses such as banning phones in schools and raising the social media age of consent, may be a good start, but they are at best a band-aid solution and at worst will exacerbate the situation.

Anything we ban becomes more appealing to young people who are extremely savvy and more than capable of finding workarounds.

The time between a young person receiving a sextortion threat and taking their life can be as little as 30 minutes. They need the education and support to help prevent and deal with these threats.

Our 5 Shield rated safety solution is both proactive and reactive, integrating 5 disciplines – tech/risk management, education, psychology, investigation and a world first insurance policy to provide schools and their students with greater levels of support and security 24/7 all year round.

Our app and Cyber Incident Helpline allow students to report any incidents immediately, and obtain guidance and support in how to handle the situation. If necessary, the school’s insurance policy can be activated to alleviate the costs of counselling and investigation into the incident. Our team work to support the school in making any reports to authorities and removing online material where possible.

What society is currently doing to address the problem is not working. Our solution has the capacity to create the social change that is desperately needed.

Our challenge is getting in front of the right people to inform them of our solution.

Young people desperately need our collective help and pre-emptive intervention. We owe them this care: this is no longer just a duty.
